The Gujarat state government has decided to delay board exams of class 10th and 12th because of the worsening COVID-19 in the state. On Thursday the government also announced that the students of class 1 to class 9 and 11 will be given mass promotion. This academic 2020-21 year, not conducting the annual examination.
The Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board had earlier announced to hold the class 10 and 12 board examination from May 10 or May 25 respectively.
Following CBSE decision:
Following the CBSE decision, the Gujarat government postponed the exam to the class 10th and 12th, which had been scheduled from May 10 to 25.
The board exams:
The board exams are on hold because of the current COVID-19 situation in the state, the government announced it on Thursday. The state government has said that the new dates of the exams will be announced after reviewing the COVID-19 situation in the state on May 15.
On Wednesday GSEB said that the exam dates of optional subjects have been deferred and it will now be held after the main board examination.
When the central board of secondary education (CBSE) declared the cancellation of class X board exams. For class 12, the ministry says it will review the situation in June and accordingly decide the dates.
Recently, the Maharashtra and Rajasthan government also decided to postpone the board 10th and 12 exams, the reason for the COVID-19 situation. Another reason is that as many as 17.5 lakh students participated in class 10 and class 12 board exams, in the last year, this time the numbers are expected to be higher.
Moreover, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Maharashtra, and Punjab also postponed their state board examination of these classes due to an alarming surge of a lot of coronavirus cases.
The growing demand of parents and school authorities to postpone board exams in Gujarat. Many representations have been made to the last few weeks of Gujarat Chief Minister by the many parents’ associations on this matter.
