In January 2019, the Government of India had approved the move to induct women into Military Police. On 8th May 2021, Indian Army Introduced its first batch of 83 women soldiers in the military police by the Corps of Military Police Centre and School (CMP C&S). A low-key attestation parade of the valiant women soldiers held at the Dronacharya Parade Ground in Bengaluru.
“The trained women soldiers imparted to them will help them to be a force multiplier at their respective units”, expressed by the commandant.
Women soldiers were praised by the commandant, CMP C&S for exhibiting an impeccable drill and also congratulated them for successfully completing the intense 61 weeks of training.
The training comprises includes all forms of managing prisoners of war and policing duties, skill development that includes maintenance and driving of a vehicle and signal communications and basic Military training.
The Indian army has planned to induct 800 women into the military police with a yearly intake of 52 women who will serve below officer rank.
Future Goal of Indian Army:
The Indian army is soon opening the doors of its aviation wing to women officers. Until now, women officers were only carrying out ground duties in army aviation. The army’s aviation wing operates helicopters. The first batch of women officers will commence training to become pilots in July 2021. They will join front-line flying duties on completion of training in July 2022.
This is for the first time that the Indian army has announced the official notification for Indian army female recruitment for soldier General Duty (GD).
